Bacon butties and refreshments for all the workers! Welcome to the Summer Newsletters from the The Ridgeway Partnership and the West Berkshire Countryside Society with ideas for getting out and about this summer and enjoying our countryside.
Thank you to Cantemus for putting on a wonderful concert, you had the audience up and dancing which was great to see. A much appreciated fish and chip supper was served in the village hall after the concert. There was a great turnout and atmosphere, thank you to all those that supported the event, £279 was raised for the Church Development project.
Don't forget your tickets for the Summer Cantemus Concert in Brightwalton Church on Saturday 10th June at 7pm followed by a Fish & Chip supper in the village hall.
It promises to be a fun and uplifting concert with a variety of music - pop to classic, folk to tradition, and completed with an Abba medley sing-a-long! Something for everyone. Tickets are £15 (£7 for under 12's) and include supper and 2 drinks. Licenced bar. Judith & Shaun will then be hosting the next Pop Up Drinks, which will now be the 16th June Easter Sunday Family Service and Easter Egg Hunt
16 April at 10:00 Brightwalton Church Family service for Easter Sunday followed by Easter Egg Hunt for the children and drinks to say good bye to Rev John Townend who is retiring. Scarecrow Competition to be held at the fete this year. Entries will be placed afterwards in the surrounding fields. Bring your creations along.

Children bring your Mum (and Dad) This is an ideal opportunity to say "thank you" for all the support they give you through the year and to give them a posy of flowers. Please all join us for the Fete Organisation meeting on Tuesday 21st March at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. We need as many volunteers as possible to help with the Fete on the Sunday 30th April, this meeting is crucial to put together the plan and allocate volunteers as necessary. We would like to invite you to come to the club’s Annual General Meeting to be held at Brightwalton Village Hall, Sunday 12th March 2017 at 6pm. Martine & Jay are looking forward to seeing you at the pop up drinks on the 10th of March from 7pm . Its less than 2 weeks now!
It would be great to see some more new faces, these pop up pubs are a great way to get to know people in the village, and have some fun. There will be a selection of beer, larger, wine (supplied by Nick Arkell) and soft drinks as well as a few nibbles (home made Thai spring rolls!). Please let Jay & Martine know on the Pop Up Drinks email if you can make it. West Berkshire Museum at the Wharf in Newbury have a range of craft events for all the family running over Easter and Shaw House has family activities running, including planting your own wild flowers and making your own spring time animals!

After 16 years of service to the Downland Benefice, Reverend John Townend retires in April. His last service will be in Brightwalton on Sunday the 7th May, with a special lunch to follow after in the village hall. All welcome, further details to follow.
Reminder that the Village Hall AGM & Fete meeting will be held in the hall on Tuesday 7th February. Wine & Nibbles from 7pm, meeting starts at 7.30pm.
Join Parkinson’s UK on Sunday 9 April 2017 when we will be returning to Welford Park for our sponsored Walk for Parkinson’s. There will be two different circular walks available, a 2.5 mile walk and a more challenging 6.5 mile walk around the beautiful Welford Park estate, home of the Great British Bake Off. During the walk you will cross the River Lambourn, climb the hill to see the impressive cricket pitch whilst overlooking the historic Welford Park, explore the wonderful woodland before crossing the fields and taking in the lovely views of the surrounding countryside.
Entry fee is £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s and all walkers will receive a Parkinson’s UK t-shirt, plus a medal on completing the walk. The funds raised from the Walk for Parkinson’s – Welford Park will go to Parkinson’s UK to support the vital research work taking place to find a cure for Parkinson’s and improve the lives of the 127,000 people in the UK who are affected by the condition. We support those living with Parkinson’s and their families and friends, so that no one has to face Parkinson’s alone.
